As a resident of York, PA, I have always been perplexed by the presence of Christopher Columbus's statue at our County Administrative Center. The fact that Columbus never set foot on North American soil is well-documented. Instead, he landed in the Caribbean and his actions led to the colonization and suffering of indigenous people (source: History.com). It seems inappropriate to honor such a figure in our community center.

Instead, I propose we replace this statue with one of William Penn. Penn not only founded Pennsylvania but also advocated for democracy and religious freedom (source: Biography.com). His values align more closely with those we wish to promote within our community.
