Repeal The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 to protect American Citizens
The Issue
Repeal the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965. For too long, the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 has been framed as a triumph of progress. In reality, it open the door that has been used to dismantle the security and dignity of Black Americans.
This act was passed under the promise of fairness, but the results have been a betrayal of the very people whose ancestors built this country and fought for the rights that others now use as a shield to commit atrocities.
We see the results of this betrayal in our own neighborhoods. We see businesses set up in our communities, profiting from our presence while treating us with utter contempt.
This isn’t just about business; it’s about blood. We remember Latasha Harlins, a 15-year-old girl whose life was stolen over a bottle of orange juice, killed by a store owner who faced almost no consequences. We remember Cyrus Carmack Belton, a 14-year-old boy shot in the back by Rick Chow over a few bottles of water, a murder that the legal system chose to ignore.
These are not isolated incidents. They are the symptoms of a system that allows people to enter this country, benefit from policies we helped create, only to turn around and kill our children with impunity. But beyond the violence, there is the calculated dismantling of our progress.
The same groups who benefited from the open doors of 1965 have led the charge to overturn affirmative action, stripping away the protections and opportunities meant to remedy centuries of systemic oppression.
It is a slap in the face to every Black American to watch those who arrived here through our generosity work to destroy the very ladder of success we put in place. If the policies that brought these people here are now being used as a tool for our displacement and destruction, then those policies have no place in this country.
We call for the immediate repeal of the act. If you cannot respect the people of this land, and if you seek to destroy the systems of equity we fought for, you no longer have a right to be here. Restore the priority of the American citizen. Stop the killing of our children. Repeal the act.
