Repeal Act 73 and halt forced school governance changes in Vermont

Repeal Act 73 and halt forced school governance changes in Vermont
The Issue
As a dedicated student in Vermont, I am deeply concerned about the impact of Act 73, passed by our state legislature, which enforces sweeping changes in school governance without clear evidence of its benefits. The intention behind this act may not be malicious, but it is undoubtedly unfounded. The decision-makers did not consult the constituents or employ analysts to rigorously research whether these changes will truly result in cost savings or improved educational outcomes.
The repercussions of this legislation are being unfairly felt at the school district level, blaming leadership for issues that originate at the state level. This is not only unacceptable but also counterproductive. Schools are the cornerstone of our communities, and their leadership should be empowered to drive change and improve the educational landscape without being shackled by unproven state mandates.
Act 73 was enacted without adequately involving the voices of educators, parents, students, and other stakeholders who are directly affected. Ignoring the input and expertise of those on the frontlines of education undermines the democratic principles we hold dear.
The emotional and logistical upheaval caused by these forced governance changes can lead to a decline in the quality of education, hinder efficiencies, and create divisions within our communities. This petition calls upon the Vermont Legislature to take responsibility and make the sensible and justifiable decision to repeal Act 73.
We are calling for a comprehensive review and transparent dialogue among all parties involved to collaboratively explore solutions that maintain quality education while being financially responsible. By repealing Act 73, we can halt the implementation of these changes and ensure that any measures taken in the future are carefully considered, based on sound evidence and inclusive of community input.
Sign this petition to urge the Vermont Legislature to repeal Act 73 and stop forced school governance changes, ensuring decisions about our education system are made with accountability, transparency, and foresight. Reform and change are natural and neccassary, but we need to act with foresight, data, and evidence, not assumptions and quickly moving sweeping reforms.
