Good news for those in San Francisco as from the SFMTA (San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency): No red curb, no ticket: SF walks back ‘daylighting’ parking fines. From the San Francisco Standard "Drivers will not get tickets for parking within 20 feet of crosswalks if the curb has not been painted red, San Francisco transportation officials revealed Monday".
"A state law took effect Jan. 1 that aims to improve pedestrian safety by forbidding parking too close to crosswalks. But the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, which initially said it would enforce the law beginning March 1, has announced that it will not issue the $40 citations for vehicles left in unmarked areas." As announced in both the San Francisco Standard and San Francisco Chronicle newspapers:

However, with the sole exception noted above, starting March 1st, 2025 any car parked within 20' of the approach side of every intersection across California (for a total of 80'), whether marked by red curb or signage or not, will be subject to citation (a loss of 4-8 parking spaces depending on car size). This particularly affects those in high density Cities such as San Francisco, San Jose, Los Angeles and San Diego.
