Repair the Macclesfield Road Immediately

Repair the Macclesfield Road Immediately
The Issue
The Macclesfield Road closure has greatly affected travel and traffic levels from and through surrounding areas, impacting businesses and residents alike. As a long-term resident of Bollington, I have seen firsthand how this closure has disrupted daily life, causing longer commutes, increased travel costs, and a sharp decline in foot traffic to local businesses. It's not just an inconvenience; it's a significant barrier that is affecting the economic vitality and social well-being of our community.
Macclesfield Road is a crucial artery that connects Bollington to surrounding areas, facilitating the movement of people, goods, and services. Its closure, since January 2025, has resulted in congestion on alternative routes, increased pollution due to longer travel times, damage to road surfaces, and diminished quality of life for residents and commuters who have to navigate this disruption daily. This is particularly challenging for local businesses that rely heavily on customers from surrounding areas.
According to recent traffic studies, there has been a significant increase in travel times as motorists are forced to take longer detours. Local shops report a decline in sales since the road has been closed. Businesses and residents are urging local authorities to prioritise the repair and reopening of Macclesfield Road to restore normalcy and foster economic recovery.
We urge the Cheshire East Council to take immediate action by allocating necessary resources and manpower to expedite the repair process which would not only mitigate current inconveniences but also prevent potential long-term economic and social repercussions for our community.
Join us in calling for this urgent action to ensure bolstering business continuity and enhancing the quality of life in Bollington, Rainow, Kettleshulme and the surrounding area.
