Repair San Mateo County's Maguire Jail elevators to resume Face-to-Face Visits!

Repair San Mateo County's Maguire Jail elevators to resume Face-to-Face Visits!
The Issue
How long will we have to wait to visit our loved ones in the San Mateo County Maguire Jail?
Our Goal: Repair San Mateo County's Maguire Jail elevators to resume face-to-face visits with our loved ones inside by September 15, 2025.
Our loved ones are our children or grandchildren, many themselves, are also parents and, they have not been able to receive in-person visits at Maguire Jail since June 2025. The San Mateo County Daily Journal recently reported San Mateo County plans to complete replacing the elevators by March 2026.
That is too long to wait for in-person visits.
We know these visits make a difference in uplifting the spirits of our loved ones. Since 2021, the Sheriff’s Office took away the physical mail we send our incarcerated loved ones, relying far too much on digital communications to replace written and in-person human interaction.
Yes, the County and the Sheriff can afford repair.
Furthermore, the Sheriff's office has budgeted the purchase of lavish massage chairs, a $74,000 conference table, and a $4.2 million request for radios - a signal to the community of prioritizing privilege over people.
Join us in petitioning our County Supervisors and Sheriff Department to do whatever it takes to repair the current elevators and restore in-person visits by September 15, 2025.
