The Tjaart Van Vuuren Public Swimming Pool in the Moot, Pretoria, has been a cornerstone of our community for years, providing not just a place of recreation, but a source of unity and wellness for all its patrons. It was here that I first joined after meeting Miriam, a remarkable lady whose warmth and dedication as the Receptionist and caretaker of the pool inspired me to become a member. Paying R192 monthly, I enjoyed the facilities of this Olympic-sized pool along with hundreds of others who used it for swimming, training, or recovery exercises.
However, this vital community asset is now closed due to poor management and a lack of adequate maintenance services, especially GAS HTH services necessary to keep the pool clean and functional. Without immediate intervention, we risk losing this essential facility, which offers health benefits, promotes community involvement, and provides an inclusive space for all residents — men, women, and children alike.
The Tjaart Van Vuuren Public Swimming Pool is more than just a pool; it is a lifeline for many residents who count on it for physical activity, social interaction, and even personal recovery. It's crucial that we act now to address the maintenance and funding issues, reopening this facility and restoring it to its former glory.
We urgently call upon the Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality to allocate the necessary funds for the re-instatement of pool maintenance services, including GAS HTH pool maintenance, bathroom repairs, and overall upkeep of the premises.
