The closure of the Maternity Unit at Galloway Community Hospital in Wigtownshire has raised significant concerns about the impact it has on women's human rights in the region. The lack of a local birthing unit forces expectant mothers to travel long distances during pregnancy and in giving birth, which is not only inconvenient but potentially dangerous, especially in emergency situations in which women have given birth at the side of the road.  This situation disadvantages the women of Wigtownshire, denying them the same level of care available to others in more urban areas.
