On 1st March 2023, the Alliance Party's official Twitter page shared an official statement from their website stating that Translink agreed to commit to funding a feasibility study to explore the potential benefit of reopening the Lisburn to Antrim 'Knockmore' Line.
Alliance Lagan Valley MLA David Honeyford was quoted saying, "I met recently with Translink and I am delighted to have received a commitment that a feasibility study will be carried out on reopening the Knockmore Line. For years I have been campaigning for better infrastructure, including the reopening of the Lisburn to Antrim railway line."
"The Knockmore Line has the potential to foster huge economic growth by connecting Lisburn, Ballinderry, Glenavy and Antrim to the rapidly developing Eastern Economic Corridor. This will then increase the new opportunities for manufacturing that exist as a result. Businesses will always move to areas with good infrastructure to help reduce costs and travel times."
"Translink already have plans to start construction of the new Lisburn West Halt at Flush Park with Park and Ride facilities. Reopening the Knockmore Line is the next logical step to improve connectivity and plan further advances, including links to the International Airport.”
This development has made waves online and I predict that once the feasibility study shows a positive result, the aim of this campaign will shift slightly from 'we want the line reopened', to 'the line needs reopened properly and here is X,Y,Z on how to achieve the best outcome for everyone affected'.
This petition still serves a major purpose as continued growth and support for the campaign will further help prove that there is overwhelming public support for such a development.
Thank you for support us thus far and please make sure to shjare this petition far and wide so we can keep the pressure on and ensure that the Knockmore Line is put firmly back in the hands of the public.
