Reopen Shoppers Food Warehouse in California, MD

The Issue

Since 2019, the Shoppers Food Warehouse in Lexington Park, MD, has shuttered its doors three times, a disruption that has rippled through our community, causing inconvenience and distress. As someone who resides in St. Mary's County, I've witnessed firsthand the challenges posed by the absence of this vital grocery store. There are some products that simply aren't available at other local stores, compelling residents to make the long and arduous journey all the way up to Clinton just to find the groceries they need.

The decision was based on financial and profitability challenges.

Shoppers Food Warehouse has been more than just a grocery store for many of us; it's been a community staple, offering a wide range of products that cater to diverse local needs. Its closure has created a void that has forced families, seniors, and individuals to travel excessive distances for essential shopping. This isn't just about convenience—it's about accessibility and ensuring that all members of our community, particularly those without the means or ability to commute long distances, can access the food and products they rely on.

Reopening Shoppers Food Warehouse in California, MD, would rejuvenate our local area, create jobs, and provide a sense of stability for the neighborhoods it serves. It is imperative that our county officials, local business leaders, and community members come together to make this happen. Supporting this petition is not only supporting a local business but also standing up for community accessibility and well-being.

Let's unite to urge the management of Shoppers and relevant stakeholders to reconsider the potential for a reopening in our beloved county. Sign this petition to express your support and help us bring back the Shoppers Food Warehouse to California, MD. Together, we can make our voices heard and work towards a future where no one in St. Mary's County has to travel far and wide for their everyday grocery needs.
