Renew The Lingo Show for 15 more episodes

The Issue

When I was around 9 or 10, I used to have a serious obsession with the UK children's cartoon that teaches languages to the young, The Lingo Show. For the unfamiliar, this cartoon was about a ladybird-butterfly hybrid creature by the name of Lingo who had 9 bug performers: A Mandarin Chinese stuntsman ant, a French trapeeze-riding housefly, a Spanish guitar-playing moth, a German athletic tick, a Welsh opera-singing caterpillar, an Urdu unicycle-riding tick, a sassy Somali woodlouse, a sleepy Polish stick insect and a Punjabi magician damselfly.

The children would pick one bug for the show, then the bug would sing about themselves and their country in a musical number called a "Hello Song". Hello Songs told about the chosen bug's country and culture, food, and sports with live-action footage. For example, the Spanish bug Queso mentioned flamenco, paella and "futbol" (soccer) in his number.

After the song ended, the bug and Lingo would go to the location of the children who requested the show and announce the performance, but the bug realizes that they need something to do their show with. Lingo tells the bugs to go look for props, and the bug goes their way.

With a blah and a blah...

The bug goes to a random location to find an object for their show. They will spot an object and say it in their language, and ask the children to repeat it. They will then teleport the object to the stage by waving their antennae. This is repeated thrice, and once it is completed, the bug will perform for the children.

The show lasted from 2012 to 2017, and came to an abrupt halt before 3 bugs could even get episodes, those 3 being Dyzio (Polish), Subah (Somali) and Kikli (Punjabi). This is a big problem because Somali is a pretty obscure language, and I think it would be cool to let children learn about Somalia and its language, same thing for Polish as well as Punjabi.

By signing this petition, you are encouraging CBeebies to bring this show back onto the air and give our unlucky three the respect they deserve.

Hear us loud and clear, CBeebies. Bring back The Lingo Show.
