As Jackson Heights residents fully supportive of the 34th Avenue Open Streets Program, the undersigned hope that you will consider expanding the program to additional streets and roads in Jackson Heights, extending the hours beyond the current 8 am to 8 pm hours, and making the program permanent.

We understand that you’ve been bombarded by [. . . ] a loud but relatively small segment of the Jackson Heights community that claims to want “compromise.” In a city filled with literally thousands of blocks of streets, roadways and highways designated for one-hundred percent vehicle use one-hundred percent of the time, we are quite confident that designating roughly twenty blocks of one avenue for pedestrian use for twelve hours per day IS, in fact, a compromise.

The Open Streets Program has dramatically and demonstrably improved the quality of life for Jackson Heights residents, young and old, non-drivers and drivers alike. We fully support expanding the program and making it permanent and would be happy to share our ideas for improving the program for everyone.
