Rename "Wicked Part 1" and "Wicked Part 2" to "Wicked Act 1" and "Wicked Act 2"

The Issue

I am a passionate fan of the film adaptations of the Broadway show "Wicked". My love for these movies is deeply rooted in their connection to the original stage production. Broadway shows are traditionally divided into Acts, not Parts, and this is a key element of their artistic character.

The current titles, "Wicked Part 1" and "Wicked Part 2", do not resonate with the theatrical charm of the original Broadway show. Renaming these films as "Wicked Act 1" and "Wicked Act 2" will better reflect the true nature and the origin of the story from the Broadway play.

More than 17.5 million people have seen the Broadway production of Wicked (Playbill), and it holds a special place in many people's hearts. The word "Part" doesn't do this movie justice. It's reduced to a mere franchise, which fails to respect the theatrical integrity from which it was born.

Being true to Broadway's artistic tradition is important. In the theatre world, where terminology is rich in history and meaning, referring to parts of a play as “Acts” rather than “Parts” is akin to recognising a play's soul. As such, fans of the original show, and anyone who appreciates the links between film and theatre, may feel more satisfied, more connected to the original work, if the wording is adjusted in favor of the time-honored term "Act".

Let's give the films the merit they deserve and recognize their Broadway roots within their title. Let's change "Wicked Part 1" and "Wicked Part 2" to "Wicked Act 1" and "Wicked Act 2". Sign the petition to support this change.
