Rename the US Consulate's Street in Vancouver to Zelenskyy Way

Rename the US Consulate's Street in Vancouver to Zelenskyy Way

The Trump administration is acting out the unthinkable more and more each day. They embody fascism, misogyny, racism, and general hatred. They’re also basic bullies. And bullies hate being the butt of the joke.
We propose a small act of opposition, but one filled with meaning: renaming the street where the US Consulate is located in Vancouver to Zelenskyy Way. #ZelenskyyWay
We are in a time where we cannot stay silent and avert our eyes. This is a time to speak and act, in large and small ways. Like Ukraine, Canada may be small, but we can still tell the US where to stick it.
The US government seems to think it holds “all the cards.” Zelenskyy bravely reminded them that no one else is “playing cards”—freedom, equality, justice, and human rights are not “games.” Changing the Vancouver US Consulate’s address to Zelenskyy Way is a way to remind the US of this. And to remind American citizens of their own obligation to act to uphold democratic values.
This action takes inspiration from the legendary political shit-disturbing of the Scottish. In 1986—in the middle of Apartheid—Glasgow renamed the street the South African Consulate is on to Nelson Mandela Place. From that day, all the consulate’s mail included the name of Mandela, then still a political prisoner. The street remains named Nelson Mandela Place today.
This is Vancouver’s moment, using wit and humour, to tell the US administration that Vancouverites and Canadians reject their bigotry and fascism. That Vancouverites and Canadians uphold and defend democracy. That Vancouverites and Canadians call out and mock bullies, no matter how big.
Sign the petition to rename the Vancouver US Consulate’s street from West Pender Street to Zelenskyy Way now. (Even the cats want you to.)
