Today on the Albany grapevine we heard that the signs bearing Grants name have finally been removed.

I jumped in my car and dashed over to Lockyer to see for myself.

Grant's enormous epitaph inside the community centre foyer has also been removed.

The street signage (City of Albany) will soon follow.

Thank you to everyone for signing the petition, following the story and your inspiring online comradery in the comments section of our page.

As I sign off, from another Change.org win, I want to ask you to consider the following;

  1. Forced adoption impacted hundreds of thousands of Australians and millions more across the globe, including our closest neighbours, New Zealand, where they are still waiting for their government to formally apologise.
  2. The century long government legislation did not care what nationality you were, forced adoption practices were intentional, subjugating women of all ages, socio-economic backgrounds, cultural groups and religions. Let's move past the idea that forced adoption was only a 'white' atrosity.
  3. Newborns suffer physically and psychologically when we remove them from their mother at birth. Newborn trauma is real, life long and entirely preventable. We need our government to stop stealing people from their family and move to a model of prevention rather than punative practices.
