Last week, Danae and I met with the CEO of Juniper Aged Care in Albany. We spent an hour discussing the history of forced adoption, Ngala as the state's most prolific mother-baby home, and the central role that Matron Grant played as the 'mother' of forced adoption practices in Western Australia.
The CEO informed us that work is underway and we will learn more about the progress of our quest for Bessy Flower to be the namesake of the community center in early 2025.
The above artwork forms part of the ARMS WA memorial to forced adoption practices, which is found on Albany Hwy, right in the heart of Victoria Park. This memorial was solely funded by the Federal Government and hours of creative toil by Mothers and Adopted people. If you haven't been to the memorial, I encourage you to do so; taking the time to read the words of survivors etched into the tiles that lay around the sunflowers. https://www.victoriapark.wa.gov.au/Parks-and-reserves/Read-Park
