I have always been perplexed by the name of London Stansted Airport, considering its actual geographical location. London Stansted Airport is misleadingly named, as it is not situated within Greater London but rather in the heart of Essex. As someone who is confused, I know firsthand the confusion and misrepresentation the current name causes. This discrepancy does a disservice to the vibrant Essex community, this also does a disservice to people who live in the eastern part of Hertfordshire (as the airport is close to Essex's border with Hertfordshire) and misguides many travelers who associate the airport with London.

Stansted is a major travel hub serving tens of millions of passengers every year. According to the Civil Aviation Authority, the airport handled over 28 million passengers in 2019 alone. This makes it incredibly important that the airport's name accurately reflects its true location. Naming it "Essex Stansted Airport" would not only honor its rightful geographical association but also boost regional pride and give international travelers a more accurate sense of where they are.

The identity of Essex is distinctive and should be appropriately recognised. The region boasts an array of historic landmarks, picturesque landscapes and a lively community culture that deserves to be acknowledged and celebrated. Adjusting the airport's name aligns with numerous other airports globally that proudly evoke their actual geographical regions, providing clarity and regional representation.

This change will have several benefits, including boosting local tourism by accurately promoting Essex as a destination. Additionally, renaming the airport could potentially reduce confusion for incoming tourists who might assume they are arriving in London proper, only to realize later that they need additional transport arrangements to reach the city. This could enhance the travel experience and reduce unnecessary logistics stress for international and domestic travelers alike.

The business elites (who own and operates the airport) have no consideration for the communities in Essex and East Hertfordshire by naming the airport "London Stansted Airport" because they want to make profits from this. This can easily confuse tourists when they arrive at London Stansted Airport no matter where they come from.

They fail to understand the fact that the airport is located in Essex (but near Essex's border with Hertfordshire, as the airport also serves East Hertfordshire) and it is time for the airport to be renamed "Essex Stansted Airport". Essex and East Hertfordshire communities are misrepresented by them by naming the airport "London Stansted Airport".

We cannot keep allowing the business elites to make the tourists, people of Essex and people of East Hertfordshire confused/misrepresented any longer now... We must do something and take action NOW. The sooner we take action... THE BETTER!!!

To move forward, I urge the managing authorities and stakeholders of Stansted Airport to consider this proposal seriously and initiate the necessary steps for the renaming process. This involves working in collaboration with local government officials, tourism boards and the community to ensure a smooth transition that benefits all parties involved.

Let's give Stansted Airport a name that truly represents its home. Please join me in supporting this change by signing this petition to rename London Stansted Airport to Essex Stansted Airport. Together, we can rectify this longstanding oversight and honor the Essex region as it deserves.
