Rename "Chattel Slavery" to "Chattel Holocaust" in Historical Contexts

The Issue

This petition is deeply personal to me. As someone who understands the true meaning of the term Holocaust - destruction or slaughter of human beings on a mass scale, I firmly believe that the term "Chattel Slavery" does not fully encapsulate the atrocities committed by the United States of America and other European countries. The term 'slavery' often fails to convey the extent of human suffering, brutality, and mass murder that took place during this dark period in history.

The renaming is not merely about semantics; it's about acknowledging and educating people about the magnitude of these historical atrocities. It's about recognizing that what occurred was not just forced labor but a systematic extermination akin to a holocaust.

This change would also serve as an important step towards repairing relations with Black and Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) communities who have been historically marginalized and whose ancestors were victims of this horrific period. By acknowledging their pain and suffering, we can start working towards healing.

It's time for us to stop downplaying these atrocities. Let us rename Chattel Slavery as Chattel Holocaust in our history books, museums, monuments, educational curriculums - everywhere where history is taught or remembered.

Please sign this petition if you believe in acknowledging our past accurately for a better future.
