Hello
Yesterday I was invited to speak at Solihull Council (the town where the airport is based, and where I live) about the campaign.
You can watch the end of that here. Thank you to Elisa for your emotional comment.
If you are based in the area, it would really help if you are able to write to your MP or local Councillor, and ask them to back the campaign.
(I have emailed both my MP, Neil Shastri-Hurst - and Saqib Bhatti, MP for Meriden but I have yet to receive a response from either. If they are your MPs please do reach out to them)
To make it easier, I’ve written a template below that you can use and adapt for a letter to your local representative.
Recently I spoke about the campaign on my podcast A Gay And A Nongay. You can listen back to that here. We are currently in the running for a prestigious Lovie Award in the category of Best Independent Podcast. If you are able to vote for us here that would be very much appreciated.
Thank you so very much for your continued support with this campaign.

Dear [MP / Councillor's name]
Are you backing the Ozzy Osbourne Airport campaign?
Nearly 70, 000 people are backing Solihull resident's Dan Hudson's campaign to rename Birmingham Airport after Ozzy Osbourne.
Ozzy's influence on music and culture is undeniable. Naming our international airport after him would be a fitting tribute to his extraordinary career and contributions to the arts.
Other airports in the UK are named after their famous children (George Best International Airport in Belfast, John Lennon Airport in Liverpool) so it is only right that we do this here in Birmingham, in honour of Ozzy.
Renaming an airport is not without precedent in the UK - Liverpool Airport is named after John Lennon and Belfast has George Best Airport. Indeed Birmingham Airport has been renamed in its recent history.
Since Ozzy's sad passing, the campaign has been picked up by the media in every corner of the globe, giving our airport more international coverage than it has ever previously enjoyed.
The petition is also backed by numerous businesses in the area, not least because it makes good business sense, both for them and for the airport and surrounding area. Music tourism in the UK is huge business and growing, spending a record £10 billion in 2024 – a 26% increase on the 2023 total spend of £8 billion - according to UK Music’s Hometown Glory report. 2025 is already set to be even higher.
Together, we can celebrate the legacy of Ozzy Osbourne and the incredible influence our city has had on the world stage, thanks to him.
