Rename a tram stop in honour of Driss Atounane, a symbol of courage and solidarity

Cette pétition vise à demander qu'un arrêt de tram à Bruxelles soit renommé en l'honneur d'un véritable héros bruxellois et belge : Driss Atounane. Through this petition, we call for a tram stop in Brussels to be named after a true Brussels and Belgian hero: Driss Atounane.
Met deze petitie willen wij oproepen om een tramhalte in Brussel te vernoemen naar een echte Brusselse en Belgische held: Driss Atounane.
Driss Atounane a apporté une contribution exceptionnelle à la ville de Bruxelles et à la société dans son ensemble lorsqu'il est intervenu pour défendre une concitoyenne, une femme à bord d'un tram, victime d'insultes racistes et islamophobes proférées par un passager agressif. En s'interposant, il a été violemment agressé par cet individu et a finalement succombé aux blessures qu'il avait subies. La femme a également été blessée et se trouve actuellement en incapacité de travail.
Driss Atounane heeft een uitzonderlijke bijdrage geleverd aan de stad Brussel en aan de samenleving als geheel toen hij opkwam voor een medeburger, een vrouw die de tram nam en het slachtoffer werd van racistische en islamofobe beledigingen door een agressieve medepassagier. Toen hij tussenbeide kwam, werd hij door deze persoon zwaar toegetakeld. Uiteindelijk bezweek hij aan deze verwondingen. Ook de vrouw raakte gewond en is momenteel arbeidsongeschikt.
Driss Atounane made an extraordinary contribution to the city of Brussels and to society as a whole when he stood up for a fellow citizen, a woman travelling on a tram, after she was subjected to racist and Islamophobic abuse by an aggressive passenger. In response, he was violently assaulted by that individual and ultimately lost his life as a result of his injuries. The woman herself was also injured and is currently unable to work.
We, the undersigned, urge the Brussels Parliament, the Mayor of Schaerbeek, Brussels Minister for Mobility Elke Van den Brandt, and the Government of the Brussels-Capital Region to encourage the STIB/MIVB to name a tram stop after Driss Atounane, a true Brussels hero.
Living together means actively caring for one another and refusing to ignore racism, Islamophobia, or any form of discrimination. Everyone has a place in Brussels, regardless of their skin colour, origin, gender, religion, or sexual orientation. It is precisely this diversity of people and cultures, meeting one another in our streets and on our trams, that lies at the heart of Brussels' identity.
Honorons donc un citoyen bienveillant, un homme au grand cœur, un père aimant et un commerçant dévoué à sa communauté, qui incarnait les valeurs que Bruxelles devrait défendre : celles d'une ville chaleureuse et multiculturelle où chacun peut se sentir en sécurité, chez soi et le bienvenu. Rendons hommage à un héros qui mérite d'être rappelé et honoré.
Let us therefore honour a caring citizen, a kind-hearted man, a loving father, and a helpful local business owner who embodied what Brussels should stand for: a warm, multicultural city where everyone can feel safe, at home, and welcome. Let us honour a hero who deserves to be remembered.

-Un arrêt de tram soit nommé en l'honneur de Driss Atounane, accompagné d'informations expliquant l'acte héroïque qu'il a accompli
-Een tramhalte wordt vernoemd naar Driss Atounane waarbij informatie wordt gegeven over de heldendaad die hij heeft verricht.

Onze gedachten gaan uit naar de familie van Driss Atounane en allen die hem dierbaar zijn en we wensen ook veel moed toe aan de vrouw die werd lastigvallen en verwondingen opliep. We hopen dat de zaak verder kan onderzocht worden, zodat kan nagegaan worden waarom de man zo agressief was en of er zaken zijn die we kunnen aanpakken om de algemene veiligheid in de buurt/tram en stad te verbeteren.
Our thoughts are with the family of Driss Atounane and all those who were close to him. We also wish to express our support and strength to the woman who was harassed and injured during this incident.We hope that the case can be thoroughly investigated, so that it can be determined why the perpetrator acted with such aggression and whether there are measures that can be taken to improve safety in the neighbourhood, on public transport and in the city in general.
Nos pensées vont à la famille de Driss Atounane ainsi qu'à toutes les personnes qui lui étaient chères. Nous souhaitons également adresser tout notre soutien et beaucoup de courage à la femme qui a été harcelée et blessée lors de cet incident. Nous espérons que cette affaire pourra faire l'objet d'une enquête approfondie afin de mieux comprendre les raisons d'une telle violence et d'examiner les mesures qui pourraient être prises pour renforcer la sécurité dans le quartier et dans les transports en commun et et plus largement dans toute la ville.
