As a student at Fredericton High School, I find myself increasingly uncomfortable with the presence of windows in our washrooms. Though these windows may not provide direct visibility into the stalls, the very presence of them feels like an invasion of privacy. I'm not alone in feeling this way – many of my peers have also expressed their discomfort with this situation.

Privacy is a fundamental right, especially in spaces where we are most vulnerable, such as restrooms. The current design undermines this right, leaving students feeling exposed and uneasy. This is an issue that affects not only our sense of privacy but also our ability to feel safe and secure at school, which is crucial for effective learning and personal development.

Situations like ours aren't isolated. According to a 2018 study by the Association for Learning Environments, privacy issues in schools can lead to increased anxiety and discomfort among students, potentially impacting their academic performance. Ensuring that students feel comfortable and safe in all parts of their learning environments is essential.

As responsible educators and administrators, it's critical that the school administration prioritizes the needs and concerns of its students. By addressing this issue, Fredericton High School can set a precedent for maintaining student privacy and well-being, ensuring that our school remains a safe and dignified place for everyone.
