Remove the Racist Clause from the 13th Amendment and Address Racial Injustice in Justice.
The Issue
We, the undersigned, call for the removal of the racist clause in the 13th Amendment and demand immediate action to address racial inequality in the justice system.
The clause in question permits slavery and involuntary servitude as punishment for a crime, leading to systemic exploitation and mass incarceration, disproportionately affecting Black communities.
Today, the statistics are alarming: 1 in 3 Black individuals will be incarcerated, compared to 1 in 17 white individuals. This is a stark reminder of the deep-rooted racism within our legal system, perpetuating injustice and inequality.
We urge lawmakers to acknowledge and rectify this historical injustice by amending the 13th Amendment to abolish the clause that perpetuates modern-day slavery and by implementing comprehensive reforms to ensure fair and equal treatment under the law for all citizens.
Join us in advocating for a more just and equitable society.
Together we can make a difference.
