On the early morning of August 23, 2024 and the evening of September 16, 2024, the poor drainage capacity of the local river, caused by obstructions built in the river by Naiharn Baan-Bua, has resulted in the flash flooding of dozens of homes immediatey upstream, in Soi Naya 1, and affected hundreds of homes, including in Soi Naya, causing hazardous situations with life-threatening consequences. The first flash flood occured in the very early morning of August 23, whilst it was dark. The second flash flood occured right before sunset, forcing affected households to deal with the effects of water entering their homes while in the dark again.

The safety of the neighbourood and the well-being of its residents is at stake. Elderly people, as well as families and children, and even pets, are put in danger by flooding.  Electrical hazards, broken glass, invisible items lying on the floor, chemicals in the water and snakes looking for refuge are a few of the many dangers brought by sudden flooding. 

With the monsoon season still unfolding (weather warnings are still occuring as of October 20 on the day these words are written) and the promise of increasing meteorological intensity due to climate change, we are continuously at risk of being flooded again if the obstruction is not removed. Immediate action must be taken in order to remove the obstruction and re-establish the safety of the neighbourood.
