Remove the Clayface movie trailer from ESPN
The Issue
Does Rita Ferro haunt your child’s dreams?
My story: October 10th, 2026, I lunged for the remote again. My husband and I had agreed that we would hold it in one of our hands during ESPN time with our three children 10 and under after noticing an uptick of horror trailers that do not meet our family’s viewing standards. This time it was my turn and I had let it fall between the couch cushions. “Don’t look!” We shouted! They didn’t.
Scenes of impossible facial disfigurement, a knife slicing a human face, and a person suffering in evident agony flashed, unbidden, across the screen.
1.8 million children watched that game.
But how did we get that close? I didn’t invite anyone to show my children that trailer. Someone was tortured. Someone used scissors to harm themselves. Someone’s face was incised with a knife. If an adult walked up to my child on the street and showed them that video, I would have called the police.
So how did it end up in my living room with me sitting right there with my child? Because Rita Ferro, President of Global Advertising of The Walt Disney Company, likes her job. And she knows that the more she promotes that trailer, the more money she gets from Warner Brothers.
Sitting on the couch, stunned by the violence my children almost (and countless by now have) witnessed, my husband and I took to the internet. We were curious if anyone else had worried about the content of this trailer. That’s how we learned the term, “torture porn.” That’s what opponents and proponents of the film have called this movie and its trailer.
Put simply, Rita Ferro via ESPN has sold American children’s eyes to advertisers of torture porn with no regard for their welfare.
Millions of children watch sports broadcasts every week. ESPN has a responsibility to make their broadcasts safe for general audiences.
The Clayface movie trailer is irresponsible to air on a network known for its generation-spanning audience.
Rita Ferro thinks she has you right where she wants you. She thinks you love watching sports more than you care about your children’s wellbeing. She thinks your children are suitable sacrifices on the altar of Disney Dollars. Tell her she’s wrong. Tell her shareholders she’s wrong.
Sign the petition and let Rita Ferro, President of Global Advertising of The Walt Disney Company know that this movie trailer is irresponsible and must be removed from ESPN’s sports broadcasts.
