King County Regional Homelessness Authority's co-chair (Shanee Colston) of the Continuum of Care, recently screamed down fellow board member Kristina Sawyckyja, sexual assault survivor and military veteran, when she suggested that committee nominee Thomas Whitaker-Raven Crowfoot, a convicted sexual predator and pedophile, was a poor fit.

She explained that she had been groped in the past by the nominee and that as he was a convicted predator, he should not be part of the committee.

Shanee Colston began ranting.  “That’s just not ok at all, and I won’t stand for that as a co-chair. We’re not here to discover people’s backgrounds, and actually, I’m glad if that is the case [that he’s a sex offender] that he’s here, because sex offenders are another population that is most vulnerable that don’t have housing."

“But we are all human at the end, and we all deserve housing. It is a human right. It doesn’t matter your background, your religion, your creed, your sexual orientation. I don’t care about none of that, and nobody should either. What we all care about is ending homelessness."

His appointment to the committee has nothing to do with his own homelessness, but whether he was qualified to be part of the committee trying to solve the problem. Ultimately, the board APPROVED Crowfoot's nomination.

After massive backlash, KCRHA Chief Program Officer Peter Lynn asked Colston to resign, to which she has refused.

While her goal of helping the homeless is admirable, shouting down a sexual assault victim to demand that a predator should sit on the board is unconscionable.  Shanee Colston has not shown the ethics or integrity to sit in a position of leadership. 

Please remove her from all leadership positions.  She has shown her lack of temperament and judgment.  Additionally, all board members who voted to approve Crowfoot's nomination should be removed as well.
