The Dominican users (Troll, or other) use Haiti's territory in wplace, a collaborative pixel art website, as a dumping ground for hate, mockery, and indifference towards Haitians who are currently suffering. People don't even know or care about this being a fact. Haiti holds a proud history as the first country to ban slavery and the first nation born from a slave rebellion against the French. Instead of celebrating this rich legacy, however, the narrative has been twisted and overshadowed by prejudice, focusing on aspects like voodoo which leads to the dehumanization of Haitians. Unfortunately, this rhetoric is also true in wplace.

Launched on 21 July 2025 by Brazilian developer Murilo Matsubara, wplace allows users to edit the canvas by changing the color of pixels on the world map. While this creative platform has great potential for unity and creativity, some users have taken the opportunity to spread racist imagery and hateful messages, particularly targeting the Haitian territory. This is not just about art or pixels, but about the respect and dignity of a nation and its people who have already faced great adversities. We cannot stand by as this symbolic violence continues unchallenged. Diversity and history should be celebrated, not denigrated.

We call on the developers of wplace to remove all racist artwork from the platform and enforce stricter policies that prevent such instances from occurring.
