Moldy Library Books in Trailer Books Upside Down on Shelves

As of today, July 21, 2026, the Public Libraries in the Virgin Islands are CLOSED to the public. Neglecting these learning environments for children has resulted in mold, books unshelved or dishelved, and computer terminals not working or being faulty. Access for the disabled is non-existent. There is not one library director with a library degree that knows how to operate a public library.
Would you have a truck driver fly your plane? The answer is NO.
So, why allow non-degreed individuals to occupy positions that require degreed individuals who know how to "fly a plane"?
For the past 6 years, I have had to occupy space in the VI National Park pavilion in Cruz Bay, St. John to allow children to check books out, read books, be read to (Dr. Sewer's Storytime), and respond to the books they read using creative arts while exploring the historical places and spaces on the island of St. John, something I did as a child.
