On March 11, at approximately 4:30 PM, the safety of our community in Willimantic was severely compromised by Officer Kienan Gillar of the Willimantic Police Department. My nephew was nearly struck by his police vehicle while riding a moped when Officer Gillar recklessly swerved his car in front of him without any emergency lights or warning. 

This incident alone would be concerning, but it is part of a troubling pattern. Immediately following this dangerous attempt, WPD “attempted” to pull another moped over, resulting in an accident and injury requiring hospitalization. Such irresponsible and reckless behavior poses a direct threat to our community's safety and undermines trust in our local law enforcement. 

The actions of Officer Gillar, especially on that day over by Polanski Ct. and Milk Street, indicate a clear disregard for public safety. His continued presence on the police force poses a risk not only to our children but to every resident in Willimantic. As citizens relying on law enforcement to protect us, we must demand that officers adhere to the highest standards of conduct and accountability. 

This petition seeks the immediate removal of Officer Kienan Gillar from the Willimantic Police Department. We must ensure that our community is safeguarded by capable and conscientious officers who respect and uphold the law, not those who endanger innocent lives.
