The Issue

To: Premier Wab Kinew and the Government of Manitoba

We, the undersigned, call for the immediate removal of Nahanni Fontaine from her position as Minister of Families in Manitoba.

The call for her removal is not because of cancel culture. There have been multiple instances in the last few months where Minister Fontaine has demonstrated that she lacks the temperament to be a Cabinet Minister.

Minister Fontaine made an inappropriate comment about an ASL translator. She has conducted herself very rudely and showed a great deal of disrespect to one of her constituents in a conversation on instagram. On September 10, 2025, Minister Fontaine shared a social media post following the tragic murder of Charlie Kirk. The post was not only very hostile towards the deceased - describing using inflammatory language, but also stated that “I extend no empathy for people like that”.

The Minister of Families holds a position of public trust and is tasked with supporting and serving all families in Manitoba, regardless of political, cultural, or religious differences. By expressing such hostility and refusing empathy for a grieving family, Minister Fontaine has demonstrated:

A lack of impartiality necessary for her role.

An inability to fairly represent families who hold differing views.
A divisive attitude that undermines public confidence in her leadership.

We believe that anyone serving as Minister of Families must be committed to compassion, respect, and inclusivity. Minister Fontaine’s words show the opposite.

Therefore, we respectfully petition Premier Wab Kinew and the Government of Manitoba to remove Nahanni Fontaine from her role as Minister of Families.

Manitoba deserves leadership that unites families rather than deepens division.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
