Remove Illegal Travellers Site From Sandy Lane, Lower Darwen
Remove Illegal Travellers Site From Sandy Lane, Lower Darwen
The Issue
We, the undersigned wish for BwD Borough Council reject any plans to make the travellers site at the rear of Sandy Lane a permanent site.
15 days ago, travellers illegally occupied an area of land and have put numerous caravans on there. The travellers have absolutely no permission to put any buildings whatsoever on the land and BwD Borough Council are aware of this.
If the travellers decide to put a planning application in, then BwD Borough Council may agree for them to stay and build a house at their leisure (the caravans will be allowed to remain even if they build their house one brick per year)!
There are already 4 permanent travellers site within a 2 mile radius of Lower Darwen.
The travellers are illegally using water and the drains belonging to United Utilities and they also have an electricity supply. It is worrying who will pick up the bill for this!
One resident has already been made aware by an estate agent that if the travellers are allowed to make this their permanent home then the value of the houses in the vicinity will "dramatically decrease".
There is already building work being undertaken at the rear of Sandy Lane (where permission is in place) so any further works are going to cause increased traffic / noise / pollution.
Due to the travellers having no permission, there is nowhere for them to dispose of any rubbish so there is potential for flytipping and vermin if rubbish is left.
The land they have occupied is now unsightly with numerous caravans and sheds present.
The travellers have ruined the rear access road by driving numerous vans over it and it is now causing an issue for residents vehicles.
Please see the BwD Borough Council website for what they look for when they receive a planning application, but they include things such as:
Highway access
Smells
Loss of trees
Disruption
Overlooking/loss of privacy
Traffic generation
Noise disturbance
Visual amenity
If you pay Council Tax and you go about any planning applications the correct way, then please sign and share this petition!
