Indian River School System is a diverse community of Students and Faculty made up of over eight-teen thousand of individuals. School Board members are elected are to represent their district and the community as a whole.  A community that includes members of the LGBTQ community and people of color. To allow an individual who mocks, belittles, and attacks those in marginalized communities in unconscionable. Gene Posca has lost the trust of this community and his continued involvement as a school board member after such unethical behavior will put at risk the safety, security, and well being of those who belong to the communities he is attacking. 

The time to act is now. In the aftermath of the most recent (8/28) school board meeting Posca's hate has been on full display. We must stand against hate of any kind, but when it comes from those entrusted with the care and education of our children there is no time to wait to end this kind of behavior.

We, the concerned citizens of Indian River County, call upon the residents of Indian River County to take immediate action and call for the removal of Gene Posca from his position as a board member. We believe that his unethical behavior, including sharing racist and homophobic content on his personal social media accounts, is not befitting of a representative responsible for shaping our children's education.

Posca's actions have shown a complete disregard for the values of inclusivity and respect that we expect from our elected officials. By sharing support for an antagonist who verbally attacked a member of our community with homophobic slurs, he has demonstrated a lack of empathy and understanding towards marginalized groups within our society.

Furthermore, it is deeply concerning that Posca was the only member of the local school board who did not request the State Department of Education to review recent African American history standards. These standards provide an inaccurate representation of history by acknowledging that blacks received benefits from slavery. By not requesting this important review process, Posca has shown insensitivity towards addressing racial inequalities in education.

We firmly believe that individuals in positions of power should uphold high ethical standards and promote an inclusive environment within our schools. The actions displayed by Gene Posca are unacceptable and undermine these principles.

It is crucial to hold our elected officials accountable for their behavior both inside and outside their roles as public servants. Removing Gene Posca from the Indian River County School Board will send a clear message that we value integrity, respect, and equality within our educational system.

We urge all residents who share these concerns to sign this petition demanding immediate action against Gene Posca's unethical conduct on behalf of Indian River County students, parents, teachers, staff members, and all community members affected by his actions.

Together let us ensure that those entrusted with shaping young minds embody values worthy of admiration rather than promoting division and discrimination.
