Valerie's Law has completed the 5th stage in Dail Eireann

Thanks to the work by Ministers Jim O'Callaghan and Norma Foley along with the Committee for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration chaired by Matt Carthy TD and with welcome cross party work and support, the Guardianship of Infants and Child Care (Amendment) Bill 2026 (aka "Valerie's Law") successfully completed the 5th stage in Dail Eireann on Wednesday June 17th.
The next stage in moving this toward enacted legislation will be consideration by the Seanad.
The full text of the Bill along with the explanatory memorandum, amendments and the related debates can be viewed on the Oireachtas website:https://www.oireachtas.ie/en/bills/bill/2026/53/
The debate on June 17th can be viewed at:

A Bill must pass through five Stages in both the Dáil and Seanad before it can be enacted. You can view an explanation of the process and remaining stages here:

Saturday June 13th was the 7th anniversary of Valerie's murder. Killing a mother is child abuse. Valerie's Law aims to protect children in this terrible situation by allowing the State to suspend or remove guardianship from people convicted of killing the child's other guardian.
Thank you for your support.
