Remove application for Disability Tax Credit for ODSP & make it default for all recipients

The Issue

Living on ODSP means making difficult decisions every month. Despite Ontario's poverty line being close to $2,400 a month, ODSP provides only about $1,200. This is a stark contrast and leaves many recipients, including myself, struggling to afford basic necessities like food.

The Disability Tax Credit (DTC) is supposed to help alleviate some of this burden by providing additional financial support. However, the current system requires a cumbersome application process. This means that individuals who are already struggling financially need to jump through numerous hoops just to access $200 a month—a crucial amount that can make a significant difference when you're living on such a limited income.

Why should those of us who are already marginalized have to fight to receive a benefit that acknowledges our right to live with dignity? It should be an automatic entitlement for everyone on ODSP.

Simplifying this process would not only reduce administrative costs but also directly improve the lives of individuals relying on ODSP. By automatically granting the DTC to all ODSP recipients, we can ensure they receive the support they deserve, without added bureaucracy and stress.

It's time to address this issue and make life a bit more manageable for tens of thousands of Canadians. Please join in advocating for change by signing this petition. Removing the unnecessary barriers to accessing the Disability Tax Credit is a step towards fairness and equity for all.
