The Issue

We, the students of Rutgers University, are deeply concerned to learn that an outspoken, well-known antifa member, Dr. Mark Bray, is employed by the university. Dr. Mark Bray, whom we call Dr. Antifa, wrote the antifa handbook, which is a guideline to what he refers to as “militant anti-fascism”. With the current trend of left-wing terrorism, having a prominent leader of the antifa movement on campus is a threat to conservative students on campus. Dr. Bray has regularly referred to mainstream conservative figures such as Bill O’reilly as fascist while he calls for militant actions to be taken against these individuals. This is the kind of rhetoric that resulted in Charlie Kirk being assassinated last month.

Additional information on Mark Bray:

He is most famous for his book. Antifa: The Anti-Fascist Handbook. This handbook has been heavily regarded in communist and anarchist groups across social media platforms.

In his handbook, He believes deplatforming those with opposing values of antifa and political violence is a necessary and essential part of ANTIFA.

In addition to his radical beliefs, in his handbook, He states that “at the very least 50% of the author's [Mark Bray] proceeds will go to the International Anti-Fascist Defense fund”.
Notably, this Defense fund has supplied legal support to Antifa (suspected) members who were charged with terrorism and attempted murder at an ambush at an ICE facility in Alvarado, Texas, on July 4th, 2025. In this ambush, an officer was shot in the neck.

This information begs the question: Why is a professor at Rutgers University supporting terrorist behavior?

We believe in free speech and the First Amendment. However, this does not mean that one is free from the consequences of their actions. Dr. Bray has regularly crossed the line and was previously fired from Dartmouth University for endorsing violence. In the current political climate, it's paramount to protect students from radicals who wish violence upon them

Rutgers University students, non-students, parents, and alumni call on the Rutgers president William F. Tate IV, who has publicly denounced political violence in a X (formerly known as Twitter) post: “Ideas are rarely safe, but the people who share them must always be”. The question is, will the president of Rutgers University protect its students from an Antifa professor who believes political violence is the answer?
