Remove Confederate Monuments from Arizona Public Property
This petition had 640 supporters
In Arizona, there's absolutely no place for symbols of white supremacist hatred and violence. It's time to take down this state's public Confederate monuments.
As you know, the Emmanuel Church shooter used symbols of the Confederacy. White nationalists marched on Charlottesville, Virginia in 2017 waving Confederate flags. From the Ku Klux Klan to the "alt-right," terrorists throughout the country fly Confederate and Nazi banners to promote hate — NOT heritage.
After the Emmanuel Church shooting, Rep. Reginald Bolding (D-27) reached out to Arizona governor's office on this issue.
Gov. Ducey refused to respond.
Today, people of all ethnicities across this state have come together to stand with Rep. Bolding and demand that the Governor hear our voices.
We call on Gov. Ducey, the State Board on Historic Names, and the Legislative Governmental Mall Commission to take immediate action: Remove and rename all Confederate tributes currently on taxpayer-funded lands in the state of Arizona.
Arizonans should not be forced to live with – and pay for – monuments to hate. Too much blood has been shed, too many lives destroyed by our polite allowance of white supremacist terrorism.
Enough is enough.
