Remove Age Verification on Roblox

Remove Age Verification on Roblox
The Issue
Roblox is a beloved platform to many people, with millions of active users worldwide, providing a creative and interactive space for people of all ages.
However, the recent introduction of the age verification requirement has sparked concern among many users. This new policy poses unnecessary barriers, ethical issues, and privacy concerns, especially for younger users who form the core audience of Roblox.
The age verification process requires personal information, such as a government ID, and a scan of the user's face, to be uploaded. This raises significant privacy and security issues, as personal data can be vulnerable to breaches, especially due to the fact that the company Roblox uses for verification, Persona, is notorious for its business failings, broken retry mechanism, high failure rates, limited support options, and a multitude of vulnerabilities, raising concerns about user's data and privacy. Combined with the simple fact that AI is wasteful and bad for the environment, the implementation of age verification is a huge red flag.
Additionally, many users have reported difficulties in completing the age verification process—all of which result in blocked or limited access to their accounts. Often times, the AI incorrectly estimates the age of user's, putting them into the wrong age group and limiting their chat. Due to this flaw, it makes it easy for adults with bad intentions to be able to slip through the cracks. Such obstacles are contrary to the inclusive and open ethos that Roblox originally stood for.
This age verification has caused many users to be unable to chat, unable to develop, and unable to upload UGC (user-generated content) onto the platform, essentially killing any games that relied on communication, centered on roleplaying, or were meant to be played with friends.
In August of 2025, a large controversy surrounding user safety was sparked, causing Roblox to lose twelve billion dollars, protests, and large backlash. Their solution? Adding in age verification, which costs a lot more money than simply hiring human moderators.
An alternative to age verification could be the implementation of enhanced parental controls, or to have simply hired more moderators, rather than using AI moderation or age verification, which is much more costly in the long run.
Roblox should remain a safe, entertaining, and accessible platform for everyone. Therefore, we urge Roblox Corporation to remove the age verification requirement and explore less intrusive alternatives that protect both the integrity and enjoyment of the platform.
Please sign this petition to help us preserve the open and creative community that Roblox stands for. Together, we can advocate for a safer, more inclusive digital environment.
