The Issue

I believe that 7x7 is the most unnecessary event in the World Cube Association (WCA) competitions. It's essentially a larger version of the 5x5 cube and doesn't introduce any new challenges or complexities. Unlike the 6x6 cube, which adds edge parity and presents a unique challenge due to its nature as an even-numbered cube, the 7x7 simply recycles the skills and strategies already used in prior events. It lacks innovation and does not bring anything exciting or fresh to the solving experience.

For competitive cubers and organizers, the inclusion of 7x7 in official competitions can feel like an unnecessary repeat of skills and concepts. This redundancy might discourage both newcomers and seasoned cube enthusiasts who are looking for novel challenges and ways to showcase their talent. Furthermore, by removing the 7x7 event, competitions could streamline their schedules, making room for more diverse and innovative events that can potentially draw in more participants and audience interest.

The World Cube Association has always valued innovation and the growth of the cubing community. Eliminating outdated or repetitive events like the 7x7 will support the continuous evolution in the sport of speedcubing. Let's push for more engaging and unique challenges that test new skills and strategies.

Please join me in calling on the World Cube Association to reconsider the necessity of the 7x7 event in its competitions. Let’s work together to promote a more dynamic and challenging experience for all cubers. Sign this petition to advocate for change and inspire a reimagining of our competitive events.
