Remove 20 dogs from Backyard Breeder who let 20 dogs and puppies die in a house fire.
The Issue
On 2/23/2022 in Yucca Valley, CA there was a house fire in which 20 dogs were killed. Many of them were puppies. The cause of the fire was a propane heater which was knocked over by the dogs.
The owner is Paul Sanchez. He Breeds the dogs and sells them for $3,000 under the name Blue Sea Shepherds. Neighbors report that the dogs have been in unfit conditions since at least 2017.
The property is hoarded and many dogs would be left outside in the desert heat in unsafe conditions. Neighbors complained many times that the dogs would escape the yard and terrorize the neighborhood.
Animal control has been called many times and even picked the dogs up from roaming. Somehow Paul was able to get the dogs back.
After the fire Wednesday, which destroyed the house, a neighbors house and killed TWENTY dogs; the owner was still able to get a surviving 15-20 dogs back from Animal Control to be kept on an unincorporated plot of land.
We, the community of Yucca Valley, believe Paul Sanchez of Blue Sea Sheperds to be an abusive and unfit pet owner. We ask San Bernardino County Animal Control and San Bernardino County Code Enforcement to remove the dogs and revoke his kennel license.
If he is allowed to keep the dogs, he will continue to breed them. He will only see profit and breed them excessively to produce as many litters as he can to make up for the puppies that were lost in the fire.
As neighbors, we are heartbroken and ashamed that this tragedy was allowed to happen. We tried to report the conditions. We all feared what would happen if the situation did not get under control. The City of Yucca Valley, County Animal Control and SB County Code Enforcement were aware of the conditions and need to take the steps necessary to prevent any more abuse of those dogs.
There are people who had to hear the dying screams of those puppies. This is a pitiful tragedy in our community.
Remove the Dogs and Revoke his license.
Several neighbors have voiced that they believe there should be criminal charges.
If you want to help further, reach out to San Bernardino County Code Enforcement and Animal Control. Ask them questions and pressure them to do something! Let's make a stink!
