In 2013, after almost a year of emotional trauma, abuse, and stalking, I was granted a restraining order meant to last the rest of my life by a female judge sitting in for Judge Kaplan. In the time since the restraining order was granted, I was constantly harassed by unknown callers, and then when the respondent temporarily moved on from harassing me, he got someone to obtain a shot gun for him, in which he held it aimed toward his then girlfriend. He was placed on probation for this. Shortly after, he went to prison for murdering an old man with his truck and went to prison. It was after hearing about these I was especially grateful for having a permanent restraining order in place. now he's in a prison work camp but he didn't qualify to work outside because of the classification due to the protection order that was in place for my eldest child and myself. I found this out because the respondent's father, who is technically a third party, contacted me on the respondent's behalf asking me to drop the protective order. He contacted me relentlessly until I informed him he was breaking the terms of said order. I told him I didn't feel safe dropping the order, and he called and messaged four times after that knowing he was breaking the order. Two months goes by with no word, until I receive what was supposed to be certified mail at the last minute that said I had a court date at 1:30 am. I thought, this can't be right, so I emailed the judge and never heard back, only to find out at 10:30 am that I have a court date at 1:30 pm THAT SAME DAY . Judge Kaplan barely let me speak, and despite proving the respondent's lawyer's claims for dropping the protection order as lies, including the fact that the respondent owns a house when the lawyer said he sold it, Judge Kaplan said I wasn't in imminent danger and was therefore dissolving the protection order. The only reason I'm not in imminent danger is because the respondent is in prison, but what happens when he gets out? I have to wait for him to do another awful thing to myself or even hurt me? Then go through this process again? All because the respondent wants some kind of privilege to work outside in prison? I may not be in imminent danger as of right now, but come 2028 when he's on probation, I will be. All because judge Kaplan let this happen. My story isn't the only one like this. There are plenty more out there. He plays favorites with certain lawyers or people with connections. He isn't a fair judge. He needs to be taken off the bench immediately. Please help me end the corrupt rulings this man hands out and signs off on.
