“Relocate Traffic Light from Dupont & Henry to Leverington & Henry (19128 - Philadelphia)
The Issue
Who is impacted?
Residents, commuters, and local businesses in Philadelphia’s 19128 ZIP code are directly affected by the poor traffic flow and safety issues at the intersection of Leverington Avenue and Henry Avenue. Leverington is a key through street connecting Main Street to Henry Avenue and is heavily used by drivers exiting I-76. Despite this, it lacks a traffic signal—while a nearby intersection at Dupont Street, which is not a through street, has a traffic light that serves little purpose and creates unnecessary delays.
What is at stake?
If the traffic signal remains at Dupont, congestion and confusion at Leverington will continue to worsen—especially now that a “No Left Turn” sign has been installed at Leverington with no advance warning signage. Drivers are forced into last-minute reroutes, which increases the risk of accidents. Relocating the signal to Leverington would reduce backups, make turning safer, and help both drivers and pedestrians navigate more smoothly through this busy corridor.
Why is now the time to act?
The recent sign change at Leverington has made an already flawed traffic design more dangerous and frustrating for drivers. With continued residential and commercial development in the Roxborough-Manayunk area, traffic volume is only increasing. We’re asking the Philadelphia Streets Department, OTIS, and Councilmember Curtis Jones Jr. to conduct a traffic study and relocate the traffic light from Dupont & Henry to Leverington & Henry for the safety and efficiency of our growing community.
