Relocate the VLF Radar Project to Safeguard Damagundam Forest

Relocate the VLF Radar Project to Safeguard Damagundam Forest

The Issue

I am addressing this as a concerned resident of Telangana, with a deep respect and appreciation for the Damagundam Forest, a primary source of oxygen (O2) for eastern Telangana including Hyderabad, and a life source for our Musi River. This forest, home to many birds, animals, and tree species, is under threat from the VLF (Very Low Frequency) Radar Project that the Indian Navy intends to establish here.

This technology is known to emit harmful radiation affecting not just humans but also the diverse forms of life present in the forest. Moreover, it's worth noting that such technology is banned in many parts of the world due to the potential hazards it poses.

The impact of establishing the project in the Damagundam Forest wouldn't just disrupt our ecosystem, but also jeopardize the upcoming Musi River project that's worth 1.5 lakh crore. Considering that Damagundam Forest is the origin of the Musi River, a project that threatens the forest would render the river project completely futile.

We understand the importance of defense projects, and we are not asking for the project to be completely abandoned. All we are seeking is the relocation of the VLF Radar Project to a different site, away from Damagundam Forest, ensuring that our environment and the inhabitants of the forest, including us, are not negatively impacted.

We urge the Indian Navy and Telangana State Government to consider this appeal and make a conscious decision for the welfare of our environment and future generations. Please sign this petition if you believe in preserving the Damagundam Forest and support the continuity of life in Telangana. Let's protect our home, together.
