I am a resident of Pineville, NC, living in the heart of McCullough neighborhood. The land that has been a part of our community's identity for years is under threat - the Miller Family's property, currently hosting the well known Miller Flea Market. A 1.5 acre substation is proposed to be built on a portion of this land.

This proposal not only disrespects the legacy of the Miller Family but also jeopardizes our neighborhood's property value and potentially our health due to potential electromagnetic field (EMF) exposure which studies suggest may have harmful effects (World Health Organization). 

Our peaceful residential area could be transformed into an industrial zone overnight, disrupting our lives and altering the character of our community irreversibly.

We understand that substations are necessary for power distribution but we believe there must be alternative locations that would not negatively impact residential areas or infringe upon local landmarks like Miller Flea Market.

We urge those in charge to consider relocating this proposed substation to a less disruptive location where it will not harm communities or disrespect local heritage.

Attend the Town Hall meeting on Thursday, January 4th at 6:00 PM @ 505 Main Street in Pineville, NC 28134.  

At this meeting, Ryan Spitzer (Town Manager) and David Lucore (Electric Systems Manager, Western Region Operations) will discuss the details of this project.

Soy residente de Pineville, Carolina del Norte, y vivo en el corazón del vecindario McCullough. La tierra que ha sido parte de la identidad de nuestra comunidad durante años está amenazada: la propiedad de la familia Miller, que actualmente alberga el conocido mercado de pulgas Miller. Se propone construir una subestación de 1,5 acres en una parte de este terreno.

Esta propuesta no solo no respeta el legado de la familia Miller, sino que también pone en peligro el valor de la propiedad de nuestro vecindario y potencialmente nuestra salud debido a la posible exposición a campos electromagnéticos (CEM) que, según los estudios, pueden tener efectos nocivos (Organización Mundial de la Salud).

Nuestra tranquila zona residencial podría transformarse en una zona industrial de la noche a la mañana, perturbando nuestras vidas y alterando el carácter de nuestra comunidad de forma irreversible.

Entendemos que las subestaciones son necesarias para la distribución de energía, pero creemos que debe haber ubicaciones alternativas que no afecten negativamente a las áreas residenciales ni infrinjan puntos de referencia locales como Miller Flea Market.

Instamos a los responsables a que consideren reubicar esta subestación propuesta en un lugar menos disruptivo donde no dañe a las comunidades ni falte el respeto al patrimonio local.
