Free Sanjiv Bhatt, IPS officer who is convicted for life imprisonment in fake case.

The Issue

Sanjiv Bhatt is a former Indian Police Service officer from Gujarat. He is well known for his role in filing an affidavit in the Supreme Court of India against the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi, concerning Modi's alleged role in the 2002 Gujarat riots. He has claimed to have attended a meeting at the CM's official residence on Feb 27, 2002, following the Godhra train burning incident, during which Modi (now the Prime Minister of India) allegedly asked top police officials to let Hindus vent out their anger against the Muslims.

He has since remained one of the most outspoken critic of the current fascist, BJP Indian government. He has particularly been supportive of freedom in Kashmir. The UN recently supported his viewpoints in their report on Kashmir.

Mr Bhatt was arrested by the police on the 5th of September, 2018, on a 22 year old case, and has been unfairly denied bail from the sessions court, and not yet given a proper hearing in the High Court. His incarceration for the past 140 days is a terrible travesty of justice - to Sanjiv Bhatt, his family and the Indian society in general, which is rapidly losing faith in our judiciary system to impart due justice to the citizens, particularly those targeted by the oppressive ruling government. Please support this petition to make our concerned voice heard in the halls of justice and democracy. Thank you.
