Pepper, our beloved mix/pitbull dog, has unjustly been held for over a month at the Navajo Nation Animal Shelter due to an unverified incident. As his caring owners, we attest that Pepper, a black and white emotional support dog, possesses a calm and friendly demeanor. Pepper's owner has a medically recognized emotional disorder, and Pepper provides important benefits as prescribed by her mental health professional. An emotional support dog is not just a pet, but a source of comfort and relief from symptoms such as stress, anxiety, and depression.

However in the past month, the mental health of Pepper's owner has been in jeopardy, and Pepper's health has been deteriorating in the shelter. He has experienced weight loss and unusual behaviors. Despite our repeated pleas, Animal Control Officers have not provided him with the necessary care or vaccinations.

Our attempts to resolve this through legal help have led us in circles without any tangible progress. It's incredibly challenging knowing that our attempts are being ignored while Pepper continues to suffer.

Animal Control's continued negligence to release Pepper and provide him with necessary medical care not only violates animal welfare laws, but also infringes upon the rights of individuals relying on emotional support animals for their well-being.
