The Issue

Petition Update — 2026

To the Decision Makers: MSG Entertainment, Sphere, Nugs.net, Dead & Company’s Management, and the Grateful Dead Family

In the wake of Bob Weir’s passing, the meaning carried by every Dead & Company performance has deepened immeasurably. Bob wasn’t just a founding member of the Grateful Dead — he was a living conduit of its spirit. A steward of continuity. A presence that turned songs into shared memory and concerts into communal rituals.

Today, the request to release the Dead Forever 2024 and 2025 soundboards is no longer simply about access. It is about preservation, remembrance, and legacy.

These recordings are not just concerts. They are living documents — capturing moments of spontaneity, communion, and creative fire from some of the final chapters of Bob’s lifelong conversation with the music. For many fans, these shows represent the last opportunity to hear his playing evolve in real time, carried by decades of intuition, joy, and hard-earned wisdom.

Releasing official, high-quality soundboards would:

Preserve Bob Weir’s final major performances in the fidelity they deserve, ensuring future listeners can experience the nuance, interplay, and emotional weight of these shows.

Offer the global Deadhead community a shared space for reflection and gratitude, especially for those who were unable to attend in person.

Honor the Grateful Dead’s long-standing ethos of musical continuity and archival care, treating the music not as a fleeting event, but as a cultural inheritance.

Provide vital historical context as the Dead & Company story enters a new era, allowing these performances to stand clearly within the lineage they helped complete.

The Sphere shows were extraordinary precisely because they were ephemeral — but ephemerality does not have to mean disappearance. Official releases ensure these nights continue to resonate, not as nostalgia, but as living memory.

This petition calls for the release of all 2024 and 2025 Dead Forever soundboards on accessible platforms, so that this music may continue to be heard, studied, shared, and cherished — by those who were there, and by those who will come to love it in the years ahead.

Let the music live on.

Let the memories remain audible.

Let Bob’s final chapters be preserved with the care they deserve.

Signed,

Matthew Marks

Petition to MSG Group, Las Vegas Sphere, and Dead & Company: Release the Dead Forever Summer 2024 Soundboards and Bring Back the Couch Tour for 2025

To: MSG Group, Las Vegas Sphere, and Dead & Company,

We, the Deadhead community and music lovers worldwide, call on you to release the official soundboard recordings of Dead & Company’s Dead Forever Summer 2024 performances on Nugs.net and other digital streaming platforms. We also urge you to bring back the Nugs.net Couch Tour and YouTube set previews for Dead Forever 2025, ensuring that this transformative music remains accessible to fans everywhere.

Jerry Garcia once said, “Once we’re done with it, you can have it.” This ethos of openness has been at the heart of the Grateful Dead’s legacy, fostering a unique bond between the band and its fans. While we respect Bob Weir’s vision for these performances to be experienced live in the immersive environment of the Las Vegas Sphere, we also recognize the reality: not every fan has the means or opportunity to attend. Releasing the Dead Forever soundboards and reviving the Couch Tour would balance these ideals, preserving the in-person magic while honoring the tradition of sharing the music.

Why This Matters

Releasing the soundboards and restoring the Couch Tour would:

 1. Preserve a Cultural Milestone: The Dead Forever Summer 2024 performances at the Sphere were groundbreaking. From awe-inspiring renditions like Dark Star on May 31, 2024, to the venue’s unparalleled visual innovations, these shows marked a pinnacle moment in the Grateful Dead’s six-decade journey. High-quality soundboards and future Couch Tours would ensure this legacy is captured and shared with all.

 2. Expand Access to Fans Worldwide: The Sphere’s limited capacity of 18,600 left countless fans unable to attend these historic shows. Restoring the Couch Tour and releasing soundboards would allow Deadheads from all corners of the globe to experience the magic.

 3. Honor the Grateful Dead’s Tradition of Sharing Music: Jerry Garcia’s philosophy of letting the fans “have it” has kept the music alive for generations. Reviving the Nugs.net Couch Tour and YouTube set previews continues this spirit, uniting fans around the world.

 4. Celebrate and Grow the Legacy: With 2025 marking 60 years of Grateful Dead music, this is the perfect moment to ensure the music remains accessible and inspiring as it moves into its seventh decade. Couch Tours and soundboards make it possible to continue connecting with new generations of fans.

Acknowledging Bob Weir’s Vision

We deeply respect Bob Weir’s desire for these performances to remain a uniquely in-person experience, and we agree that the immersive environment of the Sphere cannot be replicated. However, this doesn’t diminish the need to make the music accessible to those who couldn’t attend. By releasing the soundboards and restoring the Couch Tour, you allow the broader community to feel included in the joy and inspiration of these extraordinary shows.

A Call to Action

We are calling for 18,600 signatures—symbolizing the full capacity of the Las Vegas Sphere—to demonstrate the overwhelming demand for these initiatives. Each signature represents a fan eager to relive, discover, or share in the magic of Dead Forever.

The Grateful Dead and Dead & Company have always been about connection: the music, the community, the shared experience. By releasing the Dead Forever Summer 2024 soundboards and bringing back the Nugs.net Couch Tour and YouTube previews for 2025, you ensure that the legacy of connection continues to thrive.

Let the music play, forever—live, on the road, and in every home.

Sincerely,

Matthew Marks
