DOGS SEIZED FROM DOG FIGHTING RING IN CHATHAM ONTARIO

After almost two years, you will all be thrilled to hear that the dogs which were seized from the dog fighting ring have been released. You may remember in October 2015 in the town of Chatham, Ontario 21 pit bull dogs were seized from a dog fighting ring. The local government animal authority (OSPCA) filed an application with the courts to kill them. Ontario has Breed Specific Legislation and pit bulls are not legal. However they can be shipped out of the province to a pit bull friendly environment. ​ Dog Tales Dog & Horse Sanctuary, which sits on over 50 acres in King City, Ontario offered to take the dogs and be responsible for their transportation, veterinary needs, and rehabilitation. ​OSPCA refused to consider releasing the dogs. Over and over their request was ignored. So the long legal journey started. For almost two years Dog Tales fought to save the dogs and never gave up hope. They made their plight public and started a movement called #Savethe21. Thousands, locally and around the world, wrote letters, sent emails, called their members of parliament, petitioned, protested, tweeted and rallied. Frustration prevailed, emotions ran high and legal fees mounted while the dogs remained hostages. On July 24, 2017 a public announcement was made that 18 of the remaining 21 dogs would be released and the team from Dog Tales could start arranging their transportation and rehabilitation. Their hard work, perseverance and dedication to the welfare of the 21 dogs finally paid off and the dogs will now have a second chance at life in Florida. Unfortunately 3 of the dogs were not candidates for rehabilitation and had to be euthanized Where would these dogs be now if not for Dog Tales?
