Nous sollicitons respectueusement le Comité du patrimoine de l’UNESCO afin qu’il examine avec attention notre demande et qu’il y donne une suite favorable conformément aux principes de protection et de valorisation du patrimoine culturel. 

En tant que citoyens et artisans et préoccupés par la protection de notre patrimoine culturel marocain, nous appelons à l'action pour rejeter la récente requête de l'Algérie qui vise à modifier ses dossiers précédents de manière à inclure le terme "caftan". 

Le caftan est bien plus qu'un vêtement ; c'est un symbole de notre identité culturelle marocaine, transmis à travers des générations et porté lors d'occasions significatives. Historiquement, le caftan a toujours été une composante essentielle de l'héritage vestimentaire marocain, et toute tentative de réappropriation par d'autres nations met en péril la préservation et la reconnaissance de notre patrimoine.

Malheureusement, nous constatons que certaines dispositions de la Convention de 2003 pour la sauvegarde du patrimoine culturel immatériel sont parfois interprétées de manière à revendiquer des éléments de notre culture sous des prétextes discutables. Ces actions non seulement causent de la confusion, mais elles diminuent également la richesse et la diversité culturelle qui devraient être célébrées, et non contestées.

Il est crucial de défendre notre héritage contre ces appropriations injustifiées. Protéger le caftan, c'est protéger un morceau vital de qui nous sommes en tant que communauté marocaine. Nous demandons donc aux autorités compétentes de prendre des mesures pour s'assurer que le terme "caftan" reste lié au Maroc et soit protégé contre toute modification de son attribution dans les forums internationaux.
Nous demandons le retrait de l’image du caftan marocain, connu sous le nom de “nṭa”, du dossier présenté par l’Algérie, car cet élément vestimentaire appartient clairement au patrimoine culturel marocain et a été intégré de manière inappropriée dans ledit dossier.

We respectfully request the UNESCO World Heritage Committee to carefully consider our petition and to give it favorable attention in accordance with the principles of safeguarding and promoting cultural heritage.

As citizens and artisans concerned with the protection of our Moroccan cultural heritage, we call for action to reject Algeria’s recent request aiming to modify its previous files in order to include the term “caftan.”

The caftan is far more than just a garment; it is a symbol of our Moroccan cultural identity, passed down through generations and worn on significant occasions. Historically, the caftan has always been an essential component of Moroccan sartorial heritage, and any attempt at reappropriation by other nations jeopardizes the preservation and recognition of our heritage.

Unfortunately, we have observed that certain provisions of the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage are at times interpreted in a way that allows claims over elements of our culture under questionable pretexts. Such actions not only create confusion, but also diminish the cultural richness and diversity that should be celebrated rather than contested.

It is crucial to defend our heritage against these unjustified appropriations. Protecting the caftan means protecting a vital part of who we are as a Moroccan community. We therefore call on the relevant authorities to take measures to ensure that the term “caftan” remains associated with Morocco and is protected against any modification of its attribution in international forums.

We also request the removal of the image of the Moroccan caftan, known as “nṭa,” from the file submitted by Algeria, as this traditional garment clearly belongs to Moroccan cultural heritage and was included in that file inappropriately.
