Thank you for all of your efforts in raising awareness for this petition and its cause. We are now approaching ONE THOUSAND signatures! That is incredible, but we are not done yet! There are now TWO WEEKS left to submit public comments to the Planning Commission, and we have some new efforts underway that you can get involved with. Keep reading below:
COALITION TRANSPARENCY: About Us + Our Stance
The name of our coalition is now Charles County Against Data Centers. We will be using this name in all advocacy efforts from now on. We are a nonpartisan collection of community-based, local groups that welcomes any individuals or organizations interested in joining the fight against data centers in Charles County.
We are fully opposed to ZTA #25-187, Data Centers. Prior to this update, we were conditionally opposed, and our public comments had provided suggestions for ways the ZTA could be modified to better serve our community. We have decided to fully oppose the ZTA and we say NO to data centers in the county overall, and this will be reflected in our future testimony.
The organizations that are currently members of Charles County Against Data Centers are:
- Charles County Moms of Color
- Indivisible Charles County
- Schools Not Jails
- Southern Maryland Democratic Socialists of America
- Southern Maryland Sierra Club
- Strong Towns Charles County
HOW YOU CAN HELP: Public Comments, Action Network Form, Outreach
If you have not yet, please add your voice to those of other residents via the Planning Commission Public Comment Form. Instructions for providing a public comment can be found here, along with comment templates that you can use or tailor. The public comment deadline is Monday, January 5, 2026 at 4:30pm. Keep submitting comments and sharing this petition!
We will include updated petition numbers and highlight some of your comments in our testimony that will be submitted as a new open letter, similar to the one in this petition. We will share information about the Planning Commission meeting that revisits the ZTA when it is announced, and we encourage you all to keep an eye out, attend, and speak at the meeting.
Want to get more involved? We have created an Action Network Form, which you can fill out if you want to help us plan, meet with the County Commissioners, raise awareness through calls, emails, or knocking on doors, or just to receive updates on our efforts!
We hope you have a happy and healthy holiday season, and that you continue to stick with us in the fight against Data Centers in Charles County!
In solidarity,
Charles County Against Data Centers
