Reject Trump Strong-arming Ukraine to Secure Rare Earth Metals
The Issue
As a United States citizen, I strongly support the principles of freedom, independence, and democracy - the same values at stake for our ally, Ukraine. Recently, concerns have risen over the U.S. administration’s purported demands on Ukraine to relinquish control of half their rare earth metal deposits or risk losing vital satellite services from Starlink. This act is unethical and borders on blackmail, with real and threatening implications for the Ukrainian people and their defense efforts against Russia's invasive war of aggression.
Rare earth metals are elemental to Ukraine's economy, with the country being Europe's largest producer, and any attempts to manipulate control over these resources is an unacceptable interference in their sovereignty. Starlink's satellites have proven to be indispensable for Ukraine and their central role in communications for Ukraine makes their use almost indespensible for humanitarian, business, and military operations. Interrupting this service in a time of war could be devastating for Ukraine and the future stability of Europe.
Given the United States' roots in standing against oppressive colonial power, we must call on our own homegrown companies to support rather than undermine democracy. An ultimatum to remove communication services to a nation under attack to leverage our own financial gain is unethical and may endanger the survival and welfare of Ukrainian citizens, who rely on these advanced technological resources in their challenging fight against external aggression.
Therefore, we ask for your support in urging Starlink and the White House to change their stance and maintain their services to Ukraine regardless of economic policy disputes. The stakes are high - help us stand for integrity, independence, and the democratic values we hold dearly.
Please, sign this petition so we can together put a halt to this egregious political and corporate overreach and defend Ukraine's right to self-determination.
