Reject the Waqf Amendment Bill and Refer it to the Joint Parliamentary Committee
The Issue
To: Joint parliamentary committee waqf amendment bill
Subject: Rejection of the Waqf Amendment Bill
We, the undersigned, are deeply concerned about the proposed Waqf Amendment Bill and its potential impact on our community and heritage. The Waqf system has been a cornerstone of our cultural and religious practices, providing essential support for educational, religious, and charitable activities.
The proposed amendments threaten to undermine the autonomy and integrity of Waqf properties, which have been managed and maintained by our community for generations. These changes could lead to centralization and bureaucratic control, stripping away the rights of local communities and Waqf boards.
Our key concerns include:
Loss of Autonomy: The bill proposes to centralize control over Waqf properties, which could lead to mismanagement and neglect of local needs and priorities.
Threat to Heritage: Many Waqf properties are of historical and cultural significance. The amendments could jeopardize their preservation and proper use.
Community Rights: The bill undermines the rights of the community to manage their own religious and charitable assets, which is a fundamental aspect of our religious freedom.
We urge the government to reconsider these amendments and engage in a meaningful dialogue with community leaders and stakeholders to find a more balanced and respectful approach to managing Waqf properties.
We respectfully request the following actions:
Withdrawal of the Waqf Amendment Bill: Halt the current legislative process and withdraw the proposed amendments.
Consultative Process: Initiate a comprehensive consultative process involving all stakeholders, including Waqf boards, community leaders, and legal experts, to address any issues with the current Waqf management system.
Protection of Rights: Ensure that any future legislation respects the autonomy and rights of the community in managing Waqf properties.
We believe that a collaborative approach will better serve the interests of all parties involved and preserve the integrity of the Waqf system for future generations.
